About Me

Hi, I’m Stephanie

I'm a licensed therapist who has spent over 20 years helping people in their healing and transformation. My own journey has taught me that the most profound changes happen when we include the body in the healing process. If you’d like to learn more about me, below is my story of how I discovered the power of somatic work—both personally and professionally.

My Journey To Somatic Work

For most of my career as a therapist, I practiced cognitive-behavioral therapy and other traditional methods. While these approaches helped people understand their patterns, I noticed many people still felt stuck despite their insights. My clients knew why they reacted certain ways, but couldn't seem to break the patterns. This limitation in traditional approaches prompted me to leave the therapy field for a few years to become a healthcare strategy consultant. Then an unexpected experience led me to return to this work as a somatic practitioner.

A Turning Point

In 2018, I experienced a profound shift in perspective that completely changed how I understood healing and human potential. A sudden awakening led me to explore approaches I'd never considered before, searching for methods that could create the deep transformation I'd witnessed in my own life.

One of the first resources I discovered was a book called The Presence Process—a 10-week program focused on becoming more present through twice-daily breathing exercises and a systematic process of feeling and releasing emotions stored in the body. Though it never mentioned somatic therapy, I recognized something powerful happening.

I went through this process six times, each experience revealing new layers of how profound body-based emotional release could be. As I began studying somatic therapy and Internal Family Systems, I realized I'd been practicing the same principles through a different framework.

Expanding My Understanding

My commitment to my own healing at every level has led me to explore various intensive experiences. I've completed a three-day darkness retreat in complete isolation, which deepened my understanding of nervous system regulation and inner awareness. I've also participated in sound healings, shamanic journeying, and psychedelic therapy, which provided profound insights into how consciousness and embodied healing intersect.

These experiences, combined with personal therapy and 25 years of yoga and meditation practice, have given me a deep understanding of how transformation happens—not just intellectually, but in the body, nervous system, and entire being.

My Philosophy on Healing

Although I hold a master's degree and license in Marriage and Family Therapy and several certifications, my real expertise comes from the integration of clinical training with deep personal exploration of what actually creates lasting change. As a single mother to a teenage son and an only child with aging parents, I understand the challenges of balancing personal growth with real-world responsibilities. I've learned to integrate healing work into a busy, practical life, which informs how I support my clients in doing the same.

I've discovered through both professional training and personal experience that the body holds the key to the transformation we are looking for. Your nervous system, not just your thinking mind, needs to be included in the healing process for change to truly stick.

I believe our healing journey—including the specific challenges we face through family patterns, generational trauma, and life circumstances—serves our growth and evolution. Our difficulties aren't obstacles to overcome but pathways to discovering our authentic selves and reclaiming our capacity for joy, connection, and purposeful living.
